filling.pngAt Carrollwood General Dentistry, part of our Reconstructive and Cosmetic Dentistry consist of restoring teeth with resin fillings to match existing tooth color. In the past most dental treatment to treat cavities was the use of amalgam (Silver Fillings) or all Metal crowns. Teeth that need more extensive treatment are restored with Porcelain to metal crowns and bridges.

If Cosmetic Dentistry demands are more involved all porcelain crowns can used to eliminate any grey or black lines around the gum line of the crown. In some cases when crowns are not needed, then porcelain veneers can be used to change shape and color of a person's teeth.
When fillings or crowns are not needed, then a tooth whitening procedure can be used to lighten your own natural teeth with either the use of take home whitening kit or in-office whitening procedure.

If you are in need of dental restoration or want to change the way your teeth look please call our office for a consultation.

Our cutting edge dental technologies and materials make it possible for us to offer our patients different types of reconstructive dentistry and complex dental needs.

Cosmetic dentistry and what it may involve:

  • The addition of a dental material to teeth: Bonding, Porcelain Veneers (facing), crowns (caps)
  • Straightening of teeth accompanied by improvement in appearance of face Orthodontics

The most common cosmetic dental procedure is Teeth Whitening, or "tooth bleaching". While many whitening options are now available, including at home products, dentist-supervised treatments remain the recommended procedures for lightening discolored teeth.

Dental fixed bridges are a perment prosthesis fill in areas left by missing teeth. Two crowns hold a pontic in place, these are attached to adjacent sides of the false tooth. (See Illustration Below)
This procedure is used to replace one or more missing teeth. Fixed bridges cannot be taken out in the same way that partial dentures can. In areas of the mouth that are under less stress, such as the front teeth, a cantilever bridge may be used. Cantilever bridges are used when there are teeth on only one side of the open space.

Bridges require commitment to good oral hygiene, but can last up to ten years or more.

Veneers are ultra-thin, custom-made porcelain laminates that are bonded directly to the teeth. They are an option for closing gaps or disguising discolored teeth that do not respond well to whitening procedures. Depending on the procedure, tooth reduction may be necessary.
